Salter Architects is a Melbourne based practice formed in 1990. The nature of the practice allows us to focus on a small number of commissions at one time.

The office has been associated with the alpine region of Victoria since 2000, designing many innovative buildings using contemporary construction techniques and materials. We act as urban designers and planning policy advisors to developers of green-field housing projects in metropolitan and regional Victoria. In 2008 the office formed an association with Nexus Studio, an Indonesian architectural practice. Together we have completed several resort and hospitality projects in Bali and Lombok and continue to work together in Indonesia.

The principal, Charles Salter is a Melbourne trained architect with post graduate qualifications in urban design from the Architectural Association School in London. He worked with Gregory Burgess Architects, the Public Works Department Victoria, Dixon Jones Architects and Robert Grace Architecture in London before starting Salter Architects.

Thy Tran (Director) is a graduate of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.  She is an accomplished designer and documenter specialising in alpine and tropical projects. Thy is an Examiner with the Architects Registration Board of Victoria.

In 1993 Salter Architects was awarded the Victorian Institute prize and the Robin Boyd Medal of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects for residential architecture (Lyon Jenkin House).
