Chalet House

The Avenue Mt Buller 2000

This is one of 9 freestanding chalet houses with private parking built at the beginning of the last alpine "construction boom". Previously most Village accommodation was provided in ski clubs or apartments.

Construction is over 3 levels using a steel skeleton with infill timber frame and cladding. The roof uses large section timbers that become the internal expression. On the top floor, the expected fireplace rock is replaced with lighter re-cycled messmate.

The exterior cladding uses dressed and sawn timbers finished in black stain. This continues an Australian alpine vernacular that traditionally used green timber boards available from local saw mills finished with creosote oil.
